We are Alida and Ylenia two Italian nurses who moved from Italy to London in 2015. We met alongside our nursing path, became friend and found out that we have two passions in common.. eating and cooking!

Ylenia is from the south of Italy, from Salerno, Campania, where the sun shines for most of the year. This is the cradle of Pizza, mozzarella di Bufala, fresh fish and other famous dishes of the Italian cuisine.

 

Alida is from the north of Italy, from Milan, Lombardia, where the fog “shines” most of the year. This is the cradle of Aperitivo, risotti, polenta and it is famous all over the world for fashion and design.

 

Not everybody knows that Italy is a country that over the centuries was not always united. In fact, we have been dominated by different cultures, such as Spanish and Arabs, and depending on the historical period we did not always had the same influence all over the country. This is why our culture is so different across the peninsula. Between north and south there has always been a rivalry given our different cultural heritage. We are now a united country, but we keep our cultural differences and we are very proud of them, so we make fun of each other for it.. like our dialects, traditions and of course our dishes! 

This is exactly what makes our friendships fun, especially during the development of this culinary project!

We do not usually have a lot of free time as nurses but, with the COVID19 pandemic, due to the quarantine measures we gained a bit of time to dedicate to the kitchen (let's see the positive side of things, shall we?)

As we have been living in London for more than 5 years, we had the chance to try different authentic cuisine from all over the world as Thai, Indian, African, Caribbean and Vietnamese. With time, without even noticing, we started to include these new flavours in our daily cooking and at times even prefer them to our beloved pasta! That’s what you are going to find on this blog:authentic italian dishes from our traditions and international recipes with an Italian touch… after all we are always going to be Italian 100% no matter what!

This is how LETSCOOK was born. We aim to share easy and delicious recipes with friends and families from Italy, from the UK and from all over the world, bringing to YOU what we have become in life and in the kitchen!
