Apple blossom

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

You know how is during the weekend when you are at home, you just relax but suddenly you fancy something different, a dessert but you do not have any in your cupboards or fridge! But luckily you just realize in the corner of the fridge you have a ready rolled puff pastry you buy a couple of weeks ago thinking that it could be useful to you someday. This is the day ! ;)

Usually when I decide to do a cake or whatever type of dessert I make everything from the pastry to the cream but this rolled sheet is just for that crazy moment when are willing so bad a quick and easy dessert but you do not have anything else in the house!

This is so easy to make and so delicious , let’s start!

Doses for 6 roses

INGREDIENTS

- Ready rolled puff pastry

- 2 red apples

- 1 teaspoon of brown sugar

- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

- 50gr melted Butter

EQUIPMENTS

- ramekin

- otherwise muffin tray

PROCEDURE

Pre-heat the oven at 190°. First you need to prepare the apples cut the top and the bottom, I prefer the red one as you can see better the rose shape, cut the apples into half-centimeter slices and gently remove the core form each slices.

Place apple slices on a plate, overlapping slightly if necessary. Microwave on High about 45 seconds just until slices have softened a bit.

Cover the plate with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel.

Mix together in a bowl the brown sugar and the cinnamon. Take the puff pastry sheet unrolled it and using a rolling pin flatten the pastry a little bit , reaching 0.5cm.

Using a pizza cutter (or a knife otherwise) cut two rectangles of 3 cm by 12 cm. You can use all the sheet to have more roses or divide it in half and use for another use. Spread melted butter over dough; top with a generous amount of cinnamon-sugar. Place apple slices along the long edge of dough, about 0.5 cm beyond edge of dough, overlapping slices slightly. Fold bottom half of dough over the apple slices to form a long "folder" of dough with rounded edges of apple slices exposed.

Leave 1cm of empty dough to help you to close the rose. Sprinkle with more cinnamon-sugar, to taste. Starting from one end, roll dough not too tightly to form a rose-shaped pastry. Seal roll with end of dough strip. Now you are ready to place your roses in the tin, you can use ramekins or a muffin tray. Transfer roses in the ramekins/muffin tray, previously buttered and dust with brown sugar (or white if you prefer). Sprinkle with a little more cinnamon-sugar the roses.

Bake at 190c° until well browned, about 45 minutes. Remove the roses from the ramekins with some tongs and place on baking sheet to cool 5 to 10 minutes. Be careful do not burn yourself they will be very hot! Remove apple roses from ramekins and finish cooling on rack. It is important you are not leaving to cool down in the ramekins otherwise it can get stuck due to the sugar. When they are cool sprinkle some ice sugar on top!

SUGGESTIONS

If you don't have a microwave, just heat your apple slices in a little bit of butter over medium heat for about half a minute per side, or until flexible but not soft.If you don't have a microwave, just heat your apple slices in a little bit of butter over medium heat for about half a minute per side, or until flexible but not soft.
